Southwest Concert Promoter Blasts Ticketmaster / Live Nation Consent Decree

Concert promoter Jack Orbin, founder and president of Stone City Attractions, this week criticized the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) consent decree allowing the Ticketmaster/Live Nation merger, stressing that the deal will severely damage the live entertainment industry.
In documents filed with the DOJ and written by attorney David Balto, a former Federal Trade Commission executive, on behalf of Orbin, the promoter said he believes that nothing in the merger will stem the rising tide of concert ticket prices; the average concert ticket price nearly tripled between 1996 and 2009.

Ticketmaster is blocking dozen of ticket brokers from accessing their website, in what looks to be a large-scale action against secondary ticket resellers who frequent Ticketmaster.com.

One of the craziest years in ticketing just got a little more bizarre. Finally there are some breaking ticket issues that actually do not include Bruce Springsteen or Miley Cyrus, but oddly enough, two top NFL teams.

The proposed merger between entertainment giants Live Nation and Ticketmaster may be hitting a bump in the road.  A legal bump that is.  Members of the Senate antitrust subcommittee, as well as over 50 members of the U.S. House of Representatives, have called upon the merger to be closely scrutinized by the Justice Department.
