Miley Cyrus and Ticketmaster Go Paperless

May 24, 2009

Following the successful release of the “Hannah Montana” movie, Miley Cyrus just announced that she will be heading out for a 45-city tour across America. And with the tour’s much anticipated popularity, Ticketmaster is trying to outsmart scalpers by rolling out their biggest experiment in paperless ticketing.

No paper tickets will be issued for the entire tour. Instead, fans will need to purchase tickets with their credit card, via Ticketmaster.com, and then bring that same card to the venue to be swiped again. Once the card is swiped, seat locator slips will be printed for each virtual ticket. A valid government-issued ID is also required and must match the name on the credit card.

This “Paperless Ticket” tour is designed keep tickets in the hands of the fans, rather than scalpers. Miley’s last outing, the extremely successful “Best of Both Worlds” tour in 2007-2008, sold out almost immediately. As a result, tickets ended up on secondary ticketing sites and public resale pages, where prices were inflated. Ticketmaster’s proposed ticketing will keep ticket sales at face value.

More information on the paperless ticket tour can be found at www.ticketmaster.com/mileycyrus.

The Miley Cyrus tour will kick off September 14th at Portland’s Rose Garden Arena, and wrap up December 2nd in Miami at American Airlines Arena. Walmart will present the tour, with pre-sale tickets going up on June 10th, and general public tickets available on June 13th.
