DJ AM Found Dead
DJ AM, who rose to fame by spinning at the hippest spots in New York and L.A., was found dead in his NYC apartment this past Friday.
AM, whose real name was Adam Goldstein, was widely admired by many in the entertainment world. His success as a performer landed him gigs at the most exclusive parties and events, and he shared romances with some of the hottest Hollywood A-listers, including Nicole Richie and Mandy Moore.
It was just over a year ago that Goldstein and fellow music collaborator Travis Barker made headlines by escaping from a fiery plan crash that left the rest of the crew dead. The Learjet that contained the two musicians crashed right after take off, leaving both in critical condition, suffering sever skins burns.
Following the crash, he told People Magazine he was grateful to be alive.
I can't believe I made it," he said. "I've prayed every night for the past 10 years. There's a lot more to thank God for now. ... I was saved for a reason. Maybe I'm going to help someone else. I don't question it. All I know is I'm thankful to be here."
Paramedics broke down the door to Goldstein's Manhattan apartment late in the afternoon on August 28th. Officials discovered his body as well as drug paraphernalia. No foul play was suspected.
News of AM's untimely death shocked many in the industry. Twitter, Facebook and MySpace all lit up with messages to the fallen DJ. Out of respect, Blink-182 cancelled their Sarasota Springs show to honor AM.
