What do Ticketmaster and Doritos have in common?
Well last time we checked, Ticketmaster was not selling corn chips; however, it seems that the Doritos chip company is now in the ticketing business. Doritos consumers who purchase a bag of the special edition Late Night chips can use the actual product bag as a free "ticket" to an online virtual concert, featuring blink-182 and Big Boi.
This newest campaign by Doritos, a division of Pepsi Co’s Frito-Lay, marks new territory for online music entertainment. This will be the first ever augmented reality experience to showcase live action video within a 3-D, interactive environment. Fans who log into doritoslatenight.com will point a symbol, located only on the special-edition chip bags, into their computer's webcam for an electronic “ticket” to the experience. Once accepted, the virtual performance will launch onto the screen, featuring two songs by blink-182 (“Rock Show” and “I Miss You”) as well as one song by Outkast’s Big Boi (“Ringtone”). Fans will be able to change the performance by the way the hold, move and shake the chip bag, offering a difference experience each time they log in.
blink-182 is back on tour after a 5 year hiatus. The band reformed earlier this year after an appearance on the 51st Annual Grammy Awards. All info on the tour as well as the sixth studio album can be found on the blink-182 website, www.blink182.com
Doritos Late Night flavors include Tacos at Midnight and Last Call Jalapeno Popper. A large bag goes for $3.49 and the small bag goes for $1.29. And in case you were wondering, there are no added service fees.
